Going off-Anglo this week with the song known as Colombia’s unofficial national anthem. This is the sound I think of when I think of Colombia: Cumbia, a substyle referred to as orchestral cumbia or big band cumbia.
This week’s drop of Honest Miles brings us into the heart of Colombian tradition when we are invited into a family celebration. It marks the beginning of me taking my guard down in a foreign place rooted with historical violence. Not everyone here is violent, few are, just like anywhere. The warmth and hospitality of the Colombian people begin to settle in, and I stop looking over my shoulder.
